Today at the Google GDC keynote, Epic Games announced Unreal Engine support for Stadia, a new generation game platform, which enables players to access their games via a wide range of devices including TVs with Chromecast, desktops, laptops, phones and tablets. Unreal Engine 4 fully supports this new platform, and the Unreal Engine integration with Stadia is now available to approved developers in private beta. “We’ve been building our support for Stadia for the past two years to ensure that developers using Unreal Engine can hit the ground running and be successful on the platform,” said Arciel Rekman, Senior Platform Engineer at Epic Games. “Today we’re releasing a fully-featured integration with Stadia to help developers bring their games to an ever broader spectrum of players.”
Stadia will enable high-performance AAA games to run on Google Cloud servers streaming directly to player devices with no additional dedicated hardware. Designed with cross-platform support in mind, Unreal Engine exposes Stadia features through familiar interfaces, resulting in an easy setup, with visual quality and workflows that are consistent across all target devices.

Using the benefit of the cloud, Stadia developers can test and play their games by simply providing a link to team members — no download or installation needed. Thanks to Unreal Engine’s cross-platform capabilities, developers can use their Windows workstations to work on games for Stadia, a Linux-based platform.

Unreal Engine developers interested in Stadia can get started by applying to Google’s program. Once registered, confirm your credentials with Epic at http://www.unrealengine.com/custom-licensing so that we can provide access to the SDK.
